Module 01

Spiritual Formation

Root leadership in Christ, character, and spiritual disciplines.

+

Learning objectives

  • Explain why private spiritual formation precedes public ministry.
  • Identify practices that deepen communion with Christ.
  • Recognize the fruit of the Spirit as evidence of maturity.

Lesson

MustardSeed leadership begins beneath the surface. Jesus forms the inner life before entrusting wider influence. A leader’s prayer, Scripture meditation, repentance, obedience, and relationships shape what others eventually experience. Gifts may attract attention, but fruit sustains trustworthy ministry. Spiritual disciplines are not performances that earn God’s favor; they create space to receive grace, hear God, and respond faithfully.

Read: John 15:1–8; Galatians 5:22–23; Mark 1:35.

Practice: Set aside 20 uninterrupted minutes for prayer and Scripture. Record one truth to obey this week.

Knowledge check

1. What is the primary starting point for MustardSeed leadership?
2. Which most clearly reflects spiritual maturity?
Module 02

The Serving Leader

Lead through humility, credibility, listening, and stewardship.

+

Lesson

Jesus redefined greatness through service. Christian authority is never permission to dominate; it is responsibility to protect, equip, and help people flourish. Serving leaders listen before responding, handle resources transparently, keep commitments, and use influence for the good of others. Credibility grows when words, conduct, and care agree.

Read: Mark 10:42–45; John 13:1–17; 1 Peter 5:2–3.

Practice: Identify one overlooked need and meet it without seeking recognition.

1. Jesus defined greatness primarily through:
2. Credible leadership requires:
Module 03

The Mentoring Leader

Develop others through example, encouragement, and accountability.

+

Lesson

Paul’s instruction in 2 Timothy 2:2 describes four generations of faithful transmission: Paul, Timothy, reliable people, and others. Mentoring therefore aims beyond information transfer. The mentor models a life, asks thoughtful questions, establishes clear expectations, provides feedback, and gradually entrusts responsibility. MI12’s one-to-twelve framework keeps development relational and reproducible.

Read: 2 Timothy 2:2; Mark 3:13–15; 1 Thessalonians 2:8.

Practice: Schedule one conversation to listen to a mentee’s goals, obstacles, and next step.

1. Second Timothy 2:2 emphasizes:
2. A healthy mentor should:
Module 04

SeedChurch Ministry

Gather people, cultivate growth, and go in mission.

+

Lesson

A SeedChurch is a simple, prayer-driven disciple-making community. It may begin with two or three people and grow toward twelve. Gather creates belonging and worship. Grow develops obedience, character, and ministry capacity. Go sends believers to witness, serve, and begin new groups. Multiplication should be prepared through shared responsibility, emerging leaders, pastoral care, and clear communication.

Read: Acts 2:42–47; Matthew 18:20; Matthew 28:18–20.

Practice: Draft a 60-minute gathering and complete the SeedGroup Launch Plan. Identify the first two or three people, a reachable meeting area, a suitable venue, a weekly time, permission to use the space, and a backup. Review the plan with a supervisor before inviting participants.

1. SeedChurch is best described as:
2. “Go” emphasizes:
Module 05

The Praying Leader

Practice “Everything by Prayer” in life and leadership.

+

Lesson

Prayer is not a ceremonial opening to Christian work; it is the atmosphere in which the work is discerned and sustained. Praying leaders worship, listen, intercede, confess, give thanks, and bring decisions before God. They also remain grounded in Scripture, welcome wise counsel, and avoid using spiritual language to manipulate others.

Read: Philippians 4:6–7; Colossians 4:2; Acts 13:1–3.

Practice: Build a seven-day prayer list covering personal formation, mentees, leaders, mission, and community needs.

1. “Everything by Prayer” means:
2. Healthy prayer leadership should:
Module 06

Practicum & Integration

Turn knowledge into supervised, reflective ministry practice.

+

Lesson

Readiness is demonstrated in practice. The practicum combines a ministry plan, supervised leadership, feedback, and reflection. A learner should prepare carefully, communicate roles, safeguard participants, lead with prayerful flexibility, and evaluate what produced genuine growth. Portfolio evidence may include a gathering plan, mentor log, supervisor feedback, reflection, and a next-step development plan.

Practice: For the SeedGroup pathway, lead or assist at the first supervisor-approved meeting using your Launch Plan. Request feedback, confirm whether the location and time worked for participants, and record two strengths and two areas for growth.

1. The practicum primarily demonstrates:
2. After a ministry activity, a leader should:
